“We shall have to repent in this generation, not so much for the evil deeds of the wicked people, but for the appalling silence of the good people”
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A bill has been introduced in the Washington State House (HB 2589) to deny restroom access to transgender and gender non-conforming people. This bill seeks to overturn public accommodations rights secured through the passage of the Anderson-Murray Anti-Discrimination Law in 2006, and force people to talk about their genitals before accessing restrooms or locker rooms.

We believe people should be allowed to continue to access restrooms and changing rooms consistent with their gender identity. We have had these basic protections in place for almost 10 years. And, in the wake of a national marriage equality ruling by the Supreme Court, our opposition has decided to target the trans community in an attempt to erode our rights.

We do not need bathroom police. We do not need to display our genitals to gain access to a restroom. This is a gross overstepping of bodily autonomy, and should not be considered by our State Legislature.

Each legislative district has two State Representatives and one Senator (Find Your Legislator). Call or email all three of your districts’ elected officials today and tell them you oppose House Bill 2589.

Stand up and be counted!

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
